Wavefield brings Geowave Champion into operation
Bergen, Norway, 9 June 2006. Wavefield Geophysical AS is bringing a new vessel into operation as the company expands its 3D capability. The vessel, Geowave Champion, is currently being converted in Norway and is expected to be fully operational by January 2007. Wavefield have chartered the vessel from owner Solhaug AS for a period of seven years with options for up to 10 years. The marine management for the vessel is to be carried out by Shipman AS. 106 metres long, 22 metres wide and with a transit speed of 18 knots, the Geowave Champion will become newly-formed Wavefield’s second, large capacity 3D vessel – the first being the eight streamer M/V Geowave Commander, due to commence operations in July this year. Bringing Wavefield’s current fleet to three vessels, the Geowave Champion will be capable of 12 streamer acquisition and is specifically designed to provide high-capacity 3D, 4D, Multi-azimuth and Wide-azimuth solutions for the delivery of the highest quality data. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art seismic acquisition technology and is perfectly suited to the requirements of Wavefield’s clients. “Wavefield has highly focused plans for the next few years, and not only in the towed streamer market,” commented Atle Jacobsen, CEO of Wavefield Geophysical. He continued, “The announcement of our second, large capacity 3D vessel represents only the beginning for us – we have expanded our fleet and increased our capability, and look forward to completing highly successful campaigns with the Geowave Champion.” Wavefield Geophysical Wavefield Geophysical AS is a Norwegian marine geophysical company providing a high quality range of services including long offset 2D, high capacity 3D and full service permanent 4D acquisition.
